Why the famous comedy tunes are the trap
The tunes that make people laugh on their own are protected recordings of protected songs. "Yakety Sax" (1963), the Benny Hill chase music, "Frolic", the theme of *Curb Your Enthusiasm* used in countless meme videos, and classic cartoon scores are owned by publishers and labels. A sound clip of them in a sketch or a brand video gets matched by YouTube Content ID or the Instagram and TikTok audio systems and muted, blocked or claimed, and in an advert it needs a licence.
The classical comedy staples are often free as compositions: Rossini's *William Tell* galop, Grieg's *Mountain King*, Mozart's *Alla Turca*. Their recordings have their own rights, which is what you license.
How to score a joke
- Silence is the punchline. Cut the music on the gag, let the beat land in silence, then bring the music back.
- Hit the action. Cartoon music follows every movement ("mickey-mousing"): a fall on a downbeat, a sneak on pizzicato. Even two hits per scene make an edit feel animated.
- Keep it under the voice. In a sketch the dialogue carries the joke; instrumental tracks with a light texture leave room for it.
What does the licence cover?
Your own videos and adverts: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, websites, explainers, TV and cinema, client work, worldwide and forever, €29.90 once per track with a licence certificate. Artyfile registers its catalogue with YouTube Content ID, so a claim may appear on a monetised YouTube video; it is not a copyright strike and the video stays online.

Frequently asked questions
What music is good for funny videos?
Sneaky pizzicato for pranks, a fast galop for chases, bouncy accordion or clarinet for fails, and playful orchestral pieces for cartoons. Artyfile's funny tracks are licensed once for €29.90 for YouTube, social media and adverts.
Can I use Yakety Sax in my video?
Only with licences from its publisher and label: Yakety Sax (1963) is a protected song and recording, so it is often matched and claimed online. A licensed chase track such as Rossini's William Tell galop avoids that.
Can I use the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme?
The theme is "Frolic" by Luciano Michelini, a protected composition and recording. Using it needs licences from its rights holders; meme use is not automatically allowed.
Is In the Hall of the Mountain King public domain?
The composition is: Grieg died in 1907. Recordings have their own rights, so a video needs a licensed recording, for example Artyfile's for €29.90 once.
Do you have music for kids' cartoons?
Yes: playful orchestral pieces such as Mussorgsky's Ballet of the Chicks in Their Shells, Saint-Saëns' Fossils and Carnival Of Cologne, plus children's songs on the kids music page.
Can I use the music in a comedy advert?
Yes. One Artyfile licence covers advertising on social media, websites, TV and cinema, worldwide and with no expiry, for €29.90 once per track.
