Music for Twitch Streams: Licensed for Live, VODs and Clips
Twitch has one rule for music: you may only play what you own or have licensed. Your Spotify subscription does not count, Twitch's own Soundtrack library was shut down in 2023, and unlicensed music gets VOD segments muted or, after a rights holder's notice, a DMCA strike. Here you find music for every part of a stream, from the starting-soon screen to the raid-out, licensed once for €29.90 per track. The licence covers the live stream, the VOD, your clips and the YouTube re-upload, worldwide and with no expiry.

Which track for which part of the stream?
- Starting soon and intro screen: catchy, looping well, no vocals. Retro (Long Version), Distant Stars, Funky Dreams.
- Gameplay background: steady and unobtrusive, so chat and your voice stay clear. Delta, Water Flow, Set Me Free, Sunset Boulevard.
- Hype, boss fights and clutch moments: Hyped, Furious, Heavy Ways, Rockstar, or the classics: Night on Bald Mountain, In the Hall of the Mountain King.
- Horror games: Stormy, Take It; more on dark orchestral music.
- BRB and breaks: Obsidian (Club Version), Boy Made of Stars.
- Ending and raid-out: Carry On, Triumph Fanfare.
Short stingers for alerts and segment changes are on intro and outro music; music for edited YouTube videos of your streams on music for video games.
Can I play music on Twitch?
Only music you own or are licensed to use. Twitch's music guidelines exclude everything else from streams and VODs, and a consumer subscription (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music) is a licence to listen, not to broadcast. Two different things can happen with unlicensed music:
- Muted VOD segments. Twitch scans past broadcasts with audio recognition and mutes matched sections. A mute is not a strike, but the muted VOD stays muted.
- DMCA notices. A rights holder can send Twitch a takedown notice for a stream, VOD or clip, also months later. Notices lead to strikes, and repeated strikes can end a channel.
Twitch's own cleared library, Soundtrack by Twitch, was shut down in July 2023, so there is no built-in safe option any more.
What does an Artyfile licence cover on Twitch?
The live stream, its VOD, your clips and highlights, and the same footage re-uploaded to YouTube, worldwide and without an expiry date, as long as the music accompanies your own content: gameplay, talk, creative streams, IRL. That is written into the licence terms (T&C §8.1). Not covered are streams that consist essentially of music, such as 24/7 music or "radio" channels.
One licence per track, €29.90 once: no subscription that ends with your channel's music if you stop paying, and a licence certificate for every track. Artyfile registers its catalogue with YouTube Content ID, so a claim may appear on a monetised YouTube re-upload; a claim is not a copyright strike. If an automated system on any platform matches a licensed track, the certificate is your proof.
How loud should stream music be?
Keep background music clearly below your voice: viewers should never have to choose between the two. Instrumental tracks work best under talking, and a separate music source in your streaming software (its own audio track or scene source) lets you duck it during commentary and bring it up on breaks and starting-soon screens.

Frequently asked questions
Can I play music on Twitch?
Only music you own or are licensed to use. A Spotify or Apple Music subscription does not allow broadcasting. Unlicensed music can get VOD segments muted and, after a rights holder's notice, a DMCA strike.
What music is safe for Twitch?
Your own music, and music licensed for live streams and VODs. An Artyfile licence covers the live stream, the VOD, clips and a YouTube re-upload when the music accompanies your own content, worldwide and for €29.90 once per track.
Does the licence cover VODs, clips and YouTube uploads of my stream?
Yes. The licence covers live streams and their recordings, including VODs and clips, and the same content on YouTube, worldwide and with no expiry, as long as the music accompanies your own content.
Can I run a 24/7 music or lofi radio stream with Artyfile music?
No. Streams that consist essentially of music, such as continuous music or radio channels, are not covered by the licence (T&C §8.1 and §9.1). The licence is for music that accompanies your own content.
What happened to Soundtrack by Twitch?
Twitch shut down Soundtrack, its library of rights-cleared music for streams, in July 2023. Streamers now need music they own or have licensed themselves.
Will my VOD be muted if I use licensed music?
Twitch mutes VOD segments that its audio recognition matches to registered music. Licensed music gives you the right to use it; if a licensed track is ever matched, your licence certificate is the proof you can show.
Do I need a subscription for stream music?
Not with Artyfile: each track is licensed once for €29.90 and stays licensed for life, also for streams and VODs you published years ago.
