Music for Photo Slideshows: Songs You Can Share Online

A photo slideshow lives or dies by its song: the same 60 pictures feel like a celebration with one track and like a farewell with another. Here you find music for picture slideshows of birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, travel and the year in review, chosen to carry photos rather than compete with them. Unlike a chart song, each track can be shared on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and in a group chat: licensed once for €29.90, worldwide and with no expiry, with an instant WAV download and a licence certificate.

Which song for which slideshow?

For a funeral or memorial slideshow, the tone matters more than anything: see music for memorial slideshows. For business decks and talks, see music for presentations.

How many photos fit one song?

Plan about 3 to 5 seconds per photo. A three-minute song carries roughly 36 to 60 photos; a four-minute song 48 to 80. Fast, upbeat tracks suit shorter cuts (2 to 3 seconds), slow and tender ones longer holds with gentle zooms. For 100 photos or more, use two or three songs and change the music where the story changes: childhood to today, arrival to departure.

Three editing tips that make any slideshow feel finished: start on a strong photo when the music starts, not after it; cut on the beat for upbeat songs and on the phrase for slow ones; and end on a held photo while the last chord rings out instead of stopping mid-bar.

Why the famous song gets your slideshow muted

Playing a chart song at home is fine. Posting the slideshow is not the same thing: on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram the song's owners can mute the video, block it in some countries or take its ad revenue, because sharing it online needs a licence for the song and the recording. Music built into a slideshow app is often licensed for use inside that app only; check what is allowed once you export or post. A licensed track avoids all of that, and the licence stays valid if you post the same slideshow again next year.

Showing the slideshow at a public event (a graduation ceremony in a hall, a company party) is a public performance, which the organiser settles with its collecting society, as with any music.

What does a licence for slideshow music cost?

€29.90 once per track (Basic licence): your slideshow on every platform and as a file, worldwide and without an expiry date, also when you make it for a client or a family member. On YouTube a Content ID claim may appear on a monetised video; it is not a copyright strike, and your licence certificate proves the licence.

Frequently asked questions

What is good music for a photo slideshow?

Music that carries the photos instead of competing with them: an instrumental or a gentle vocal, a clear mood that fits the occasion and a steady tempo you can cut to. Bright, playful tracks suit birthdays; uplifting ones graduations; tender ones anniversaries; nostalgic ones a year in review.

How many pictures should a slideshow have per song?

About 3 to 5 seconds per photo, so 36 to 60 photos for a three-minute song. Use shorter cuts for upbeat songs and longer holds for slow ones; for more than 100 photos, use two or three songs.

Can I use a popular song in my slideshow?

To play it privately, yes. To post the slideshow on YouTube, Facebook or Instagram you need a licence for the song and the recording; without it the video can be muted, blocked in some countries or have its revenue claimed. A licensed track avoids that.

Can I use this music in a graduation or birthday slideshow I share online?

Yes. One licence for €29.90 covers the slideshow on every platform and as a file, worldwide and with no expiry, including slideshows you make for someone else.

Can I play the slideshow at a party or ceremony?

At a private party, yes. At a public event such as a graduation ceremony in a hall, playing music is a public performance that the organiser settles with its collecting society, as with any music.

What music is best for a memorial slideshow?

Calm, warm and unhurried music, usually instrumental: piano, strings or harp. Artyfile has a separate page with music chosen for memorial and tribute slideshows.
